The Benefits of Getting Anti-Aging Treatments While You’re Young

It may seem obvious that you should get anti-aging treatment when you show signs of aging. The more wrinkles, age spots, and sagging that you see, the greater the desire for treatment.

But in this case, your intuition may be leading you astray. Anti-aging treatment is actually most effective when you’re young, since your skin is more flexible, resilient, and responsive to treatments. These services will still have an effect as you age and your skin becomes less elastic, but the effect will be less than if you had gotten the treatment at age 35, versus 65.

Let’s look at a few of our most popular non-surgical, anti-aging treatments – EmFace, MicroNeedling, and Ultherapy – and why you should consider getting them sooner than later.

EmFace

A little backstory on the parent company of EmFace, called BTL: before EmFace even existed, BTL was originally contracted by NASA to help develop a treatment that astronauts could use in space to keep their muscles from atrophying while living in zero-gravity. It was so effective, BTL realized they could bring this ground-breaking technology back down to earth into the world of aesthetics, and boom – we have space-age anti-aging right here in our office.

EmFace is a quick, convenient, and non-surgical way to reduce facial wrinkles and lift sagging skin. Instead of cutting into the skin with a scalpel and tightening the muscles and lax skin with surgery, EmFace uses a combination of Synchronized Radio Frequency (RF) and High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic Field (HIFEM) energy to affect the skin and muscles simultaneously. The RF energy stimulates collagen and elastin production in your skin, while HIFEM tightens your muscles for a firm, supple appearance. The result is a snatched, tightened appearance that yhou will see noticeable results after just a few sessions. Most patients see results after the first, but obviously this differs from case to case.

Each EmFace session is only 20 minutes long, with no downtime required, very minimal to no pain, and the only side effects being a mild rosiness to the treatment area that typically fades after 15-30 minutes. Most patients report zero downtime or side effects, and boasts a 95% patient satisfaction rating in over 9 clinical trials. It’s amazing!

Ultherapy

Ultherapy is the only FDA-approved non-surgical procedure for lifting the skin. Ultherapy has been called the “non-surgical facelift”, except that this treatment uses ultrasound rather than electromagnetic energy to lift and tighten the skin. The advantage of ultrasound is that it can penetrate to the deepest layers of the skin (or SMAS) and you only need one treatment for full results. You will experience a sensation of deep, pulsing vibrations during the procedure, some patients prefer to use a topical numbing cream prior to the treatment for maximum comfort.

Ultherapy treatment time is longer than EmFace: approximately 60-90 minutes for face and neck treatments, and 30 minutes for chest treatments. There is no downtime required for this procedure, and full results are seen 3 months post treatment.

MicroNeedling with Exosomes and/or PRP

Microneedling involves using a device with tiny needles to create small punctures in the skin. These micro-injuries stimulate the skin’s natural healing process, boosting production of elastin and collagen. At Clinical Aesthetics, we use Rejuvapen for microneedling and numb you for optimal comfort with a topical numbing cream. The treatment takes less than a half hour and afterwards your skin will be red or pink (see picture below). There is minimal recovery time, usually requiring social downtime of about 12-24 hours.

Microneedling can also be enhanced with exosomes and/or PRP. Exosomes are tiny, naturally occurring structures that transmit information and nutrients between cells. An infusion of exosomes helps your skin heal after microneedling. PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) involves extracting a small amount of your blood, spinning it in a centrifuge, and reinjecting it into the treatment site via microneedling. The platelets in your blood boost the healing process even further.

Like our other anti-aging treatments, microneedling is most effective when you’re young. As we age, our skin naturally thins, which is why visible veins are more common among the elderly. Microneedling helps keep your skin thicker and prevents it from sagging or developing fine lines. If you get microneedling treatments on a regular basis, starting from a young age, it’ll keep your skin in great shape through the years.

Why Anti-Aging Treatments Are More Effective on Younger Patients

As we age, our skin naturally produces less collagen, the protein responsible for skin’s elasticity, firmness, and healing ability. Anti-aging procedures like EmFace and Ultherapy stimulate collagen production across the board, but when you’re younger, you have a higher baseline level of collagen to work with, and so these procedures raise collagen to even higher levels in younger patients. This is not to say that anti-aging treatments are ineffective on older patients; they can still produce dramatic results. However, your skin will naturally be less responsive, and you may require more sessions to achieve similar outcomes.
Imagine the Grand Canyon being formed over many, many years. If you can stop the deep crevices from forming at all, then it is easier to keep a canyon from forming. The same goes for the wrinkles on your face, chest, and neck. If you’re starting to see signs of aging when you look in the mirror, consider getting an anti-aging treatment like EmFace, Ultherapy, or even Botox NOW. There are many factors that can influence your decision to seek anti-aging treatment: cost, timing, downtime required, whether you think you need it, etc. All these are valid. But as one of those factors, consider that these treatments work best when you’re younger, and your skin is already more flexible and responsive to treatments to begin with. There is no better time to start your anti-aging regime than right now, and Clinical Aesthetics has all the services to help you along the way.
